A Chinese native growing to 1 meter in a year to an eventual size around 15 meters. With 4 cm sharp pointed leaves are glossy dark green above and gray green below.
Though mostly unknown; this is really amazing plant.
It is heat, sun and drought tolerant.
It's habit is a narrow to broadly pyramidal. Dark green leaves are linear with spiny tips. Leaves turn to a reddish-green tint in winter.
It is a fast grower which makes it an excellent candidate for a high quality hedge. Trim hedges from summer to early fall.
Grows in almost any soil, acid or alkaline, as long as it is well-drained. Plants are very shade tolerant.
