Mountain Pieris (Pieris Floribunda) 50 seeds (#665)

Mountain pieris is a compact broadleaf evergreen that is covered with beautiful white upright flower sprays in early and mid-spring. The flower buds of this southeastern United States native are light green and are attractive in and of themselves, providing significant winter interest. Once they open, many small urn-shaped flowers hang downward from stem branch tips. The mildly glossy leaves are light green when new and fade to a dull dark green.
Mountain pieris needs a moist, well draining acidic soil in a partial sun to lightly shaded environment. Protect from winds. This species is a bit more cold hardy and tolerant of sun, heat, low humidity, and alkalinity than are other Pieris. It is also more resistant to lacebug, which often mars the leaves of Japanese pieris. However, it is not a long-lasting choice for gardens in hot, humid regions. It is lovely if grown in a woodland or Asian-style garden or a cozy residential entryway. It also lends itself well to container culture. Trim off the flowerheads when done to increase next year's floral display.
