About the product

Usually grown in the herb or vegetable garden, garden burnet can be pruned low like a lilliputian edging hedge. The leaves taste of cucumber and can be eaten in salad, soup, or as a refreshing garnish to cool beverages. Garden burnet is a clump-forming perennial native to moist meadows across a large expanse of southern and central Europe into central Asia.
The upright stems of this herbaceous herb grow from underground rhizomes. Each compound leaf comprises four to 12 pairs of rounded leaflets with toothed edges. The leaves are typically trimmed back for leaf harvest, which keeps plants tidy and low-growing. If not cut back, garden burnet produces small upright flower spikes with many tiny reddish purple flowers. Where winters are mild, the leaves will remain semi-evergreen. Otherwise the seasonal cold will kill plants back to the roots.
Grow garden burnet in full sun to partial shade and any moderately fertile garden soil. The soil needs decent drainage while offering consistent moisture. Use this plant as a component of the herbaceous perennial border, veggie or herb garden. It may also be naturalized in a damp meadow or the edges of a pond or stream. If allowed to flower and go to seed, garden burnet self-sows freely. In desert or tropical regions, grow it as an annual from fall to late spring.
