Creeping Thyme (Thymus Serpyllum) 200 seeds (#1743)

Thymus serpyllum, commonly called wild thyme, creeping thyme or mother-of-thyme, is a hairy, prostrate, creeping, woody-based perennial which is primarily grown as an ornamental ground cover. It is rarely used in cooking (Thymus vulgaris is the culinary thyme most commonly used in cooking). plant's blooms can be enjoyed as an ornamental addition to your herb or flower garden.
Wild thyme is native to Europe, western Asia and northern Africa. Numerous, thin, somewhat woody, prostrate stems clad with tiny, opposite, oval-rounded, pubescent, almost sessile, glossy blue-green leaves form a flat foliage mat which will spread over time by rooting stems.
Easily grown in average, dry to medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun. Best grown in loose, sandy, gritty or rocky, nutrient-poor soils with sharp drainage. Tolerates drought. Dislikes moist to wet soils where rot may develop. Plants are evergreen in mild winters. Cut back stems as necessary to maintain plant appearance, to control growth/spread or to limit unsightly woody stem growth.

GERMINATION INSTRUCTIONS
1. Fill a garden planter with potting soil.
2. Scatter creeping thyme seeds across the surface of the planter, approximately 3 cm apart. Press lightly on the seeds to embed them slightly into the soil.
3. Keep at +18-+22C. Germinates in 2-3 weeks.
4. Water the seeds, trickling the water gently in the first waterings until seedlings develop so as not to wash away the seeds.
5. Keep container in full sun during early stages of growth. In hotter climates, move to partial shade. Once the plants have established themselves, continue watering when soil feels dry to the touch, being sure to let the container drain so the roots do not sit in water and rot. Thin out the seedlings so they are 25-30 cm apart to promote healthy growth. (infformation source: www.ehow.com).
