SOLD OUT Calabrian Pine (Pinus Brutia) 15 seeds (#827)

This medium-sized evergreen tree comes from the eastern Mediterranean region.
The long, stiff, bright green needles of this pine occur in bundles of two. The needles crowd the outer branches, forming a dense crown. In spring, tiny male cones and larger female cones appear near the branch tips. The female cones - which diverge at right angles from the branches - persist for two years, ripening from green to red-brown. This tree is pyramidal when young and rounded and high-branched at maturity. Its reddish bark becomes thick, furrowed and scaly with age.
This adaptable pine does well in full sun and well-drained soil. A good choice for streets, parks, and large yards, this reliable evergreen makes an ideal companion for deciduous trees such as redbuds and cottonwoods.

GERMINATION INSTRUCTIONS
1. Place the seeds in a container with tepid water and soak them for 12 hours.
2. Fill small pots with compost. Place one or two pine seeds on top of the compost in each pot, then cover the seeds with a thin layer of sand.
3. Water the sand and compost to add moisture, then place the pots in a warm, sunny location. As the seedlings emerge and grow, the soil needs to remain moist, not wet.
4. Repot the pine trees into medium-sized pots in the fall. Grow them in the pots for the following season until they are large and strong enough for transplanting into the landscape.
