New Japanese Cornelian Cherry (Cornus Officinalis) 10 seeds (#810)

Japanese cornelian cherry is a late winter flowering shrub that produces tiny clusters of sunny yellow blossoms. After flowering, this eastern Asian native produces berries that slowly turn from green to bright red. Its medium green foliage turns an appealing red-purple in autumn, and its bark is an interesting scaly blend of gray, orange and brown.
This dogwood is not fussy about the soil in which it grows, but should be planted in full to partial sun for best flowering, fruiting and fall-color. It is best planted if in front of a dark evergreen or wall. Either will heighten the visual "pop" of its leafless branches when they become covered with tiny winter flowers. Early blooming bulbs and corms, like winter aconite or snowdrops, would look beautiful in combination with Japanese cornelian cherry.

3. Sow the seeds ~2 mm deep in the mix. Moisten the seeds and place the flat in a cold frame or in the refrigerator at +2-+4C for 60 days. Keep the seeds moist during this period.
4. Remove the flat from the refrigerator and place it in an area with indirect sunlight and where the temperature remains between +15-+20C (60-68 F).
5. Keep in good ventilated room or place. Good air circulation is required.
5. Spray the seeds periodically with room-temperature water from a misting bottle to ensure they remain moist. Seeds typically germinate within 20 days to three months.
