Unique green flowers without petals. Plants for the border, pot and container plants, plants for patio and window boxes, cut flowers.
Late summer is time for the petal-lacking display of yellow and white disk floret surrounded by the green petal-like floral leaves!
The Hulk China aster is an upright but bushy annual native to China. Green foliage grows upon stems that have a collared circle of small green leaves at their tips. Lacking petals, these leaves surround the yellow and white real flower disc.
China aster can be planted in loam or sandy soil in well drained conditions and full sun. Do not bother to deadhead spent blossoms as 'Hulk' will not reflower since long daylengths are required for flower bud formation. This plant is susceptible to yellow wilt so avoid overwatering or poorly drained soils as once leaf yellowing occurs there is no treatment.
