Baby Snapdragon (Linaria Maroccana mix) 400 seeds (#1786)
Finely textured, fuzzy green elaves on tall stems are delightfully pretty in summer when toadflax bursts with bicolored flowers. This cousin of the snapdragon is an annual native to Morocco in northwestern Africa where it pops up in light rocky soils and screes.
The light green leaves are sticky and needle-like. In summer the tips of the slender, erect stems bear loose clusters of two-lipped flowers in White, Yellow, Purple, Violet. Bees will pollinate the blossoms.
Grow toadflax in full to partial sun in a light, well-draining soil that has average fertility. Gravelly pockets in rockeries are acceptable. Use this annual to fill in areas of the mixed herbaceous border or to add color to the rock garden in summer's heat. In regions with very hot summers and nearly frost-free winters, consider sowing seeds in fall to allow plants to grow and bloom in late winter and early spring.
